Blue Ridge

Winter average lows range from 22°F in the northern mountains of Western North Carolina through 28°F in the Ashevile-Hendersonville area to 32°F in the portion of the Blue Ridge in South Carolina.

Winter average highs range from 44°F in the northern mountains of Western North Carolina through 48°F in the Ashevile-Hendersonville area to 52°F in the portion of the Blue Ridge in South Carolina.

Summer average lows range from 60°F in the northern mountains of Western North Carolina through 63°F in the Ashevile-Hendersonville area to 66°F in the portion of the Blue Ridge in South Carolina.

Summer average highs range from 82°F in the northern mountains of Western North Carolina through 85°F in the Ashevile-Hendersonville area to 87°F in the portion of the Blue Ridge in South Carolina.

Piedmont

Winter average lows range from 34°F in North Carolina through 37°F in South Carolina.

Winter average highs range from 55°F in North Carolina through 58°F in South Carolina.

Summer average lows range from 68°F in North Carolina and northern Piedmont of South Carolina through 72°F in the southern Piedmont of South Carolina.

Summer average highs range from 90°F in North Carolina and northern Piedmont of South Carolina through 94°F in the southern Piedmont of South Carolina.

Coastal Plain

Winter average lows range from 36°F in Outer Banks of North Carolina through 42°F from Jacksonville NC through the Coastal Plain in South Carolina.

Winter average highs range from 56°F in Outer Banks of North Carolina through 62°F from Jacksonville NC through the Coastal Plain in South Carolina.

Summer average lows range from 72°F in Outer Banks of North Carolina through South Carolina except for 76°F on the narrow strip along the coast below the Grand Strand of South Carolina.

Summer average highs range from 90°F (except the Outer Banks which are typically about 6°F cooler) in North Carolina through South Carolina..

Average Annual Rainfall

Blue Ridge

The extreme western tip of North Carolina (Murphy and west) averages 65 inches while the Asheville area only 58. The area around Hendersonvile, just south of Asheville NC, through the Blue Ridge of SC, experiences about 62 inches annually.

Piedmont

Most of the North Carolina Piedmont averages 65 inches. Charlotte NC through the South Carolina Piedmont receive considerably less, typically 50 inches annually. The area in South Carolina along the Fall Line only averages about 38 inches annually.

Coastal Plain

The Coastal Plain of both North and South Carolina averages 57 inches annually except the area around Jacksonville NC which receives about 7 inches more. Hilton Head Island only receives about 38 inches annually.
