Located in Latta Plantation Park on the shore of
Mountain Island Lake ( just 6 miles north of Charlotte) is historic Latta Plantation, a
living history museum showing life in the North Carolina back country during the early
19th century. You will learn what it was like to be a planter, a slave, a merchant, or a
yeoman farmer. Costumed docents offer regularly scheduled tours and impart little-known,
interesting facts about the settlers of the area. Besides the ca. 1800 Latta house, you
will find a kitchen house, a meat house, a well house, barns, and assorted other
outbuildings. A reproduction log cabin shows how the yeoman farmers lived. Various
barnyard residents interest youngsters and everyone else. During special events many
different country skills are demonstrated.
